National Braai Day is just around the corner. Ensure the safety of your family and home by giving your gas braai a thorough check-up before you use it. 1. Disconnect the gas lines from the supply tanks. Rubber supply lines can become brittle over time. Any damaged or cracked pipes should be replaced immediately. Pipes that do not bend easily may need replacing – inspect them closely for small hairline cracks.
2. Do a thorough inspection for anything that has come loose and tighten where needed. Clean the connectors and pans with a soft brush to remove grime that has clogged up. Old fat can easily ignite which is dangerous close to gas lines. 3. Test your gas cylinder for leaks. Squirt a mixture of water and dish-washing liquid around the valve of the gas tank and then turn the gas on low. Bubbles forming around the valve indicate a leak. Test the regulator and connection points the same manner.
